The Authentic Parisian Custard Tart

  1. Heat the milk with the scraped vanilla pod.

  1. Pour the hot milk (after removing the pod) over the mixture, mix well and pour the mixture back into a saucepan and cook over low heat until you obtain a pastry cream.

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a deep-sided tart tin with puff pastry or shortcrust pastry. Pour in the custard mixture and bake for 45 minutes. If the custard is browning too quickly, cover it with aluminum foil.

  1. Once out of the oven, let it rest for 4 hours in a cool place.
